Mr. Fix it

Yesterday morning we had two dressers that I worked on that needed repair and put up on the porch for resale. The back on the one was loose when I picked it up so the only two staples holding it on were removed and the back panel put in the back of the van instead of flying off the trailer on the way home. (One night a few weeks ago it started to rain on the way home from an auction and the back of a cabinet did fly off! Ha!) All went well but had to wait until the sun was not shining directly on one dresser because it was too hot, go figure, last week they said it was going to snow. Long story short, they are both for sale after some frustration.

I told one lady who came into the shop that I do the repair and my wife does the painting. I am thankful to the Lord for the time Jan and I can spend together during this time of job searching. I can reflect on the many days when I strive for perfection but I need to strive for unity. We make a good team.

Visit to racing shop

Wow, We had such a good time hanging around the racing shop last Saturday morning but there was someone missing. The driver of the race car, Ed Gibbons, had died in his personal vehicle in an accident that happened two weeks ago. Billy Cagel, Ed Gibbons crew chief, invited us and about 20 guys there from our Sunday School class showed up. Only one guy was short enough to fit in the race car. He hit the gas petal with the 580 HP engine running, it was really something. My thoughts were "engineering at it's best" when I looked under the light weight body. We spent a couple of hours talking and looking at and trying out all the equipment. I even ran a bead from a wire welder making my mark, JK, on a piece of scrap steel.

Early Morning

Well, Its 6:30 and I was out to get the morning paper to see if there were any garage sales in Columbia on Friday morning. None there, there's 2 in Camden but probably not worth going to. So....Yesterday! I had just prayed, "Lord I want you bless this shop and if there is any evil here BE GONE in Jesus name, come Lord Jesus and fill this place, YOU own this building and shop."

Then Susie and Edgar came in, without their 9 grandkids, and got a layaway out, bought about 7 pair of shoes, some pants, a cool popcorn popper that the kids can watch it pop and a lot of other stuff. Even some aromatherapy for headaches. Then another spender came in. When I came back in the afternoon another big spender was there so I helped load it up. Jan helped me load a china cabinet into the van for delivery. When I saw their stairway, while walking backwards out of the corner of my eye, I said to myself sheesh! The evening was complete with all-you-can-eat crab legs for Jan's birthday. A lot of others down here pray before eating. Last week we saw one couple whose food was cool they prayed so long.

All reved up

Our Ford Focus, nicknamed "the jok-us", got a new valve cover gasket this afternoon. The old one was leaking because the rubber gasket had hardened. No more oil leaking onto the exhaust and smelly smoke. I washed the engine and engine compartment afterwards and it looks good under there.
The joke on us, was after we bought the car with the factory tires, could not drive in the snow before we moved. The backend fishtailed all over.
I will check to see if there is snow in Indiana when we make the trip to see the grandkids, Gianna and newborn Veda.

My Mom's Birthday

Anna Mae Hoekstra was born on this day, Feb 15. Penny did not hold out long enough with Veda for Great Grandma's BD but had her on Tom's BD the 13th. Happy Birthday in heaven Mom!

PS There was a guy last week at The Red Door who was named Blank. I asked him if his name gave him problems. Yes, some especially their wedding invitation. The grooms name was left off.

13 percent sale

"Hello" I would say. "Today we are have a 13 percent off sale on everything in the store." Some people would ask why, others I just blurt out. "Today is the 13th and we have a new Granddaughter!"

Furniture Delivery Fun

After delivering two pink chairs and putting a white chase lounge in the trailer for consignment "the husband" pulls up after another day on the links and says "I HOPE YOU ARE NOT DELIVERING THAT!" "Oh, Don't you recognize this?" I responded, with sweetness. "I delivered two chairs already to your wife and this was upstairs. I am with The Red Door",

Pointing to the magnetic sign on the back of our delivery-GS van. The lady was nice but the man could've had a few drinks or just one of the rude rich men from Maryland where his first home is. She will come back to the store but if I don't see him again, fine. Her Florida room is upstairs and his is downstairs overlooking the golf course. Poor lady.
But what an eye opening drive back to the shop. From a winter condo on the golf course to a drive through the ghetto with alot of the folks out on the porches enjoying the weather. President Obama needs to take from the rich and give to the poor - and fast!
